Finally Living Within Our Means

September 20th, 2014 at 09:01 am

This month starts a very new era of living for me and my new husband. We sit down and set a budget, and are actually sticking to it! I'm so proud of us. It's stupid, but it's definitely a step in the right direction. And though our debt seems daunting, we're making strides in the right direction.

We're currently working on our credit cards, which is why our student loans will continue to rise. After that, I think I want to start working on the cars, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there. We still have plenty of time before the credit cards are completely paid off.

So I guess for now, we'll call it a work in progress. Just have to keep trucking along.

Smart step to set u a budget and give every dollar a 'job.' If you look at a few threads you'll notice we also encourage everyone to create an Emergency Fund, contributing even tiny sums helps you move to your goals. Try Frugal Q&A on 'Forum' for ideas that might help free up sums to add to debt reduction. A lot of it relies on your attitude. Don't allow it to feel like deprivation, if you treat it like a challenge it can be fun to think up new ways to have no cost, low cost entertainment for example.

My favourite is to think up ways to present leftovers in a new way with a made up name. Try www.cooks.com and add the ingredient to be used up in the 'search' box

Good job on sitting down together and working on finances. That is wonderful and a way to make sure both parties are involved and buy in.

    Welcome to SA!
